Enhanced visibility for Women in Canadian Design
Amanda Schutz, founder of Curio Studio, describes her younger self as “not exceptionally talented.”
Years later, she was named a Fellow of Design Professionals of Canada (the highest honour the Society can confer).
If you wonder how someone like Amanda succeeds in the design profession, you’re not alone.
“Women in the Canadian design field have been invisible for most of history,” says Amanda. “When I started out, I could have benefited a lot from learning from my fellow female designers.”
With this in mind, Amanda founded Canadian Women in Design, an online platform for talented Canadian female designers to share their insights with the next generation.
Amanda and her team put careful thought into every detail of the CWID brand, including: A versatile typographic logo (featuring a typeface by a Canadian woman designer), a series of infographic-style portraits of women, Illustrations depicting the daily lives of women in design, and a gorgeous website (developed by our friends at Hello Public).
“This is my passion project,” said Amanda, “but it’s also a community project, and I hope we can grow our CWID community to bring more visibility to Canada’s amazing women designers.”
