A Brand-New Brand for Canada’s Newest Polytechnic
In its 55th year, Grande Prairie Regional College was preparing to become Alberta’s newest polytechnic institution. At the time, though, certain details were anything but certain.
“When we started talking to GPRC, they were nine months from launching a new brand,” said Amanda Schutz, Curio’s Creative Director, “and they didn’t even have a name picked out yet.”
Creating a logo without a brand name posed several challenges, but Curio wasted no time, basing our earliest ideas on whatever information was available at the time (even sketching unique concepts for different name contenders).
By September, Northwestern Polytechnic had its new name, and, following several rounds of refinements (and 17 different options presented), the client chose their new logo.
Now, there were only 10 weeks to bring the brand into the third dimension. Curio dove into developing ads, stationery, presentation templates, social media graphics, signage, promotional items, tradeshow displays, parchments, and many more applications of the new brand.
At 12:30 p.m. March 9, 2021, Northwestern Polytechnic made its world debut, and the Curio team treated themselves to their first full exhale in nine months.
