Alberta Pork

Pigs! In! 3D Space!

Picture yourself, brush in hand, staring at a perfectly blank canvas. Now imagine that canvas is an entire room, and you have been asked to fill it with pigs—it can happen, and it did happen!

The Pig Science Centre is an interactive space designed to teach young students about pork production. In 2016, Alberta Pork commissioned Curio to completely overhaul the Centre’s visual environment.

We began with extensive client consultation, at the same time learning all we could learn about pig breeds, farming, history, biosecurity, production, and careers.

Curio presented early concepts within a few weeks, after which production proceeded at full-trot. Over time, the room’s interactive features came to include a pig-anatomy “Operation” game, a motion-detected floor projection, an illustrated delicatessen, and a digital career quiz.

By opening day, Curio had developed over 100 illustrations across 28 walls. Says Amanda Schutz, Creative Director: “This project goes to show what happens when you combine the awesome powers of teamwork and pork… should we call it ‘Teampork?’ Ugh, no. That is awful. Don’t put that on the website!”
